About the doctors

Dr. David J. Cooper
After graduating from Georgetown University's School of Dentistry, Dr. Cooper established his private dental practice in St. Mary's County, Maryland. After 23 years of private practice, he moved to a larger facility and partnered with Dr. Michael Owens to accommodate their growing clientele. Dr. Cooper is a founding member and current president of the Southern Maryland Dental Study Club. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental association, Patuxent Dental Association and the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Cooper is a recipient of the America’s Top Dentists Award.

Dr. Michael W. Owens
Dr. Michael Owens is a graduate of the University of Maryland's Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Since partnering with Dr. Cooper and founding Tidewater Dental in Lexington Park, MD, together they have been able to meet and exceed the growing demands of an expanding industry and private practice. Dr. Owens’ memberships include the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental association, Patuxent Dental Association and the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce (Board Member), as well as the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr Owens is also a recipient of the America’s Top Dentists Award.

Dr. Wayne L. O’Roark
Dr. O’Roark joined the Tidewater Dental team as our exclusive Implant dentist. He received his dental degree with honors from the University of Maryland where he was president of his graduating class, and elected to the Gorgas Odontological Honor Society and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. With 30 years of experience, Dr. O’Roark has placed in excess of 5000 implants. Unlike many dentists providing Implants, he is proficient in all of the implant types and prosthetics and can provide you with the proper implant procedures as dictated by your particular jaw conditions and your desires.

Dr. O'Roark was appointed as a clinical graduate instructor of Implant Dentistry at the Dental School, University of Maryland in July, 2006. Dr. O’Roark is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI). This recognition is the ultimate in the field of Implantology. He is the only dentist in Southern Maryland with this distinction. He received this certification in 1989 and was among the first 35 in the country to be so recognized. He is also a diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Society of Osseointegration, a fellow of the American College of Dentists, a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Academy of Implants and Transplants. Dr. Joseph Wareham
Originally from Charles County, Dr. Joseph Wareham attended Salisbury University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. Dr. Wareham completed his graduate studies at the Nova Southeastern University School of Dental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, returned home to Southern Maryland and joined the exceptional group of dentists at Tidewater Dental. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the Patuxent Dental Association. Dr. Wareham and his wife now make their home in Mechanicsville.

Dr. Charles DeRoo
Dr. Charles DeRoo completed his undergraduate studies by earning his Bachelor of Science degree from California State University in Fresno, California. He pursued and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and continued his education by receiving his Master of Science degree in Orthodontics from the State University of New York in Buffalo. Dr. DeRoo is a board certified orthodontist by the American Board of Orthodontics and specializes in the orthodontic and dentofacial orthopaedic care of children and adults of all ages. Dr. DeRoo's services include traditional braces, retainers and Invisalign, the esthetic, almost invisible system of moving teeth without braces. Dr. DeRoo is a Member, American Association of Orthodontists and Diplomate, American Board of Orthodontics. He also holds memberships with the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association, the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, where he is a past chairman of the Ethics Committee.
